3 Low Sugar Smoothies: How To Swap Out Fruit

Rachel Morrow RACHEL MORROW

Keeping the sugar content of your smoothie low can be tricky, even when using fruits and keeping ingredients natural! Our tribe was asking for low-sugar smoothie recipes (that still TASTE good!), so we challenged ourselves and came up with 3 smoothie recipes that use our favorite vegetables!

We've swapped our usual fruit ingredients for some of the best vegetables getting around. Here are 4 of our favorite swaps for fruit when it comes to cutting back on nature's candy:

1. Zucchini

Zucchinis are perfect because the taste is neutral! They are packed with fiber which we love increasing when making a smoothie. The trick is to prep your zucchini by cutting into chunks and freezing ready for your smoothies. This makes your smoothies nice and creamy too!

2. Cauliflower

Another neutral tasting vegetable that is easy to freeze and make your smoothies nice and creamy! One of those things where we say "don't knock it until you try it". You can lightly steam your cauliflower before freezing to help with digestion or leave raw if you know you are ok to digest this way.

3. Cucumber

The super hydrating cucumber is easy to add to most smoothie recipes. You'll get a great boost of fiber and antioxidants!

4. Avocado

Fat is one of our favorite things to add to smoothies. Not only does it make them smooth and creamy, it will help keep you full for longer due to he fat and protein content. You will also get essential nutrients like potassium, folate, and vitamin K!

1. Hemp & Vanilla Breakfast Smoothie

2. Creamy Ginger Green Smoothie

3. Mood-Boosting Maca, Macadamia & Cacao Smoothie
