The Health Trends We'll Be Following in 2019
It’s wonderful to see so many new health trends emerging as more and more people look to improve their lives through better nutrition, movement, mindset and more. It can be a little overwhelming with the sheer number of new products and programs coming on to the market and we’ve seen many health fads over the years from sugar-free to low-fat, high-protein, no artificial flavors, you name it, if they can print in on the label, they’ll do it! So how do we separate the good fads from the bad?
We tried and tested a range of new health trends to see which ones work and what we’ll be adding to our regime in 2019.
1. The Slow Movement
Over the past few years, the fitness industry has been all about fast movement. From Cross-Fit to Boxercise, Boot-camp to Trampoline workouts, we’ve been busy trying to burn the most number of calories possible. More recently, we’ve had a change of pace to say the least, with slow movements taking the fitness industry by storm. Moving in a slow, mindful way allows us to adapt each posture to exactly what our bodies need, and when we align the body in a healthy way, we move in a more productive way that gives us sustainable results without placing the body at risk for injury. People are now rediscovering walking, hiking, yin yoga and tai chi, noticing a change not only in their physical state but their mental one too.

Cannabis oil and many hemp related products are often tainted with its association to marijuana. This misconception is common and many people aren’t educated in the understanding that cannabis can assist our body in a vast array of functions. We recently discovered that the human body has cannabinoid receptors in various sections of the body including; helping to control brain and nerve activity (including memory and pain), energy metabolism, heart function and the immune system. Both cannabidiol oil (CBD) and cannabigerol oil (CBG) have been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth. So why wouldn’t you want to add this elixir of life to your daily regime! There’s nothing worse than waking up on the wrong side of the bed and nothing better than a good night’s rest. Waking up after a solid night’s sleep will have you feeling invigorated and ready for the day and sets the tone for how we feel, look and how we operate creatively and productively. If we want to optimize our productivity, health and well-being – getting more sleep is an essential strategy. These are just some of the benefits you can enjoy from a better night’s sleep:

8. Digital Detox
Keeping connected is paramount in today’s digital society, but is our inconsumable obsession with our smartphones taking a toll on our inner health? Over the past 10 years, we have seen a paradigm shift in the way we use technology, specifically with the rise of the smartphones and social media. Our ‘technostress’(originally conceptualized as the negative influence of technology and social media) is directly associated with the round-the-clock accessibility afforded by mobile phones, creating a feeling of never being free and guilt at the inability to respond to notifications, calls and text messages. By digitally detoxing ourselves from our devices, you’ll enjoy;
- A calmer more content you! When you’re on your phone or absorbed in your emails, you’re not living in the present. It’s only when you open your eyes to the here and now that you realize how easy it is to miss out on the good things around you.
- Improved Sleep. Science has shown that when you look at a screen before bedtime, your brain is tricked into thinking it must remain alert and awake, preventing melatonin from being released.
- Increased Productivity. It’s not until you divest yourself of social media, that you realize how much time you actually spend on it!
9. Brain-Boosting Foods and Techniques
There’s no simple drug to make us smarter, but did you know eating the right foods can help you bolster your brain function? Recent studies show that your food choices may be the most influential variable you can control that relates to the health, vitality, and functionality of your precious brain.
